Tip – Blizzard Conditions

Welp parts of the Midwest experienced blizzard-like conditions in the last 48 hours. In addition to making the routine trip to the store to pick up some essentials (coffee for me and snacks for the boys), it also meant we needed to break out the Polaris snowplow we have for the Sportsman 500. Most of the time we use shovel power to clear the driveway because I use it as my workout for the day and gives me an excuse to skip the gym. But the predictions gave us a chance of getting 2ft of snow with some brutal winds. No, thank you. I’ll skip the workout this time.

My dad won this Sportsman 500 and the plow set up at a raffle ten years ago and they are still hanging in there. The snow plow and kit needed a bit of TLC as they haven’t received any maintenance since last year. The hubs also did a bit of work on the suspension.

After checking the mount, frame, and blade for any major issues there were a couple of items with the blade that we figured we should replace before the storm hit. So we replaced the wear bar and the skid shoes. The blade also got a fresh coat of spray paint to help keep the rust at bay for another year.

Thankfully we didn’t get hit with 2ft of snow. But the wind did create some pretty decent snow drifts at the end of our driveway and those of our neighbors. The hubs bundled up and spent a couple of hours today clearing them out for us and the neighbors.

The weather is predicted to warm up a bit next week so we are hoping to be able to get out on the current trail to see if these winds knocked over any trees and limbs into the path. Once we clean up those we are looking forward to starting the trail expansion.

Stay warm and Merry Christmas everyone!
